The NBA completed its first-ever six-team trade involving Klay Thompson, Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, other players and multiple second-round picks and pick swaps. It was a complicated trade due to the picks, but all teams involved have signed off on the historic deal.

The six teams involved are the Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets. The blockbuster trade also used six second-round picks, one of which was a pick swap.

Here's the breakdown for the entire trade:

  • The Dallas Mavericks acquired Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors and a 2025 second-round pick from the Charlotte Hornets.
  • The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired a 2025 second-round pick from the Charlotte Hornets, which will be either the Denver Nuggets' or Philadelphia 76ers' 2025 second-round pick, whichever is favorable. They also got a 2031 second-round pick swap and cash from the Golden State Warriors.
  • The Golden State Warriors acquired Buddy Hield from the Philadelphia 76ers and Kyle Anderson from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
  • The Denver Nuggets acquired cash from the Charlotte Hornets.

Klay Thompson will bring shooting and championship experience to the Dallas Mavericks. Thompson won't have any problems adjusting his game to play with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. He will just need to stand in the corner or at least move without the basketball and find an open basket.

Doncic and Irving will do their thing – isolate and score or isolate and find an open man from beyond the arc.

On the other hand, the Golden State Warriors have overhauled their roster post-Klay Thompson. Buddy Hield replaces his three-point shots, considering he's the leader in three-pointers made in last the five seasons ahead of Steph Curry.

Kyle Anderson is a perfect complementary player off the bench who can mimic Draymond Green's production for the second unit. As for the Charlotte Hornets, they get a young wing in Josh Green and a veteran backup point guard in Reggie Jackson.

Dallas Mavericks general manager releases statement following Klay Thompson acquisition

The Dallas Mavericks are looking to get back to the NBA Finals, wherein they struggled to hit shots from beyond the arc. The Mavericks quickly fixed that problem by acquiring Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors via sign-and-trade.

Here's what Mavs general manager Nico Harrison said about the move via Noah Webber of The Smoking Cuban:

"We're thrilled to have Klay join us in Dallas. As one of the league’s greatest shooters who competes on both ends, we feel Klay is a perfect fit for our team. He adds a strong, experienced veteran voice that will help us continue to build on the success we’ve seen in recent years. Klay’s championship experience, clutch performances and calm demeanor under pressure exemplify what it takes to win in the NBA at the highest level. He will help us continue to grow towards our goal of winning another championship."
