The Dallas Mavericks have been suffering from a mysterious illness that has been a major concern. Mavericks wing, Quentin Grimes in a press conference after the 134-122 home loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday opened up about the illness passed around in their locker room.

The $4.2 million wing, according to Spotrac, detailed the illness and how it also affected him. Grimes is earning $4.2 million as part of the 4-year, $11,128,042 rookie contract he signed with the New York Knicks in 2021.

While he doesn't know what exactly the illness was, he described his own as a form of "stomach bug", as per Dallas Mavericks reporter Noah Weber.

“I couldn’t even get out of bed, it ran through the whole team. I think J-Kidd and them got it…We haven’t been practicing as much because you don’t want to pass that around…I ain’t ever seen nothing like it, even in high school, college, everybody getting sick...," Grimes said.

According to reports, 50% of the Maverick's 15-man roster has one way or another come down with the illness. Affected players include: Luka Doncic, Daniel Gafford, Grimes, Maxi Kleber, Dereck Lively II, Naji Marshall, Klay Thompson, PJ Washington, and most recently Kyrie Irving, who missed the game against the Cavs.

The mysterious illness has been described as similar to the flu. Not only have the players been affected, but some of the coaching staff as well. The team has taken precautions to mitigate its spread, such as reducing the number of meetings and time spent in such gatherings.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd on the illness plaguing the team

Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd spoke about the mysterious illness affecting the team. It appeared that it began when the Mavs began their road trip to Denver, Miami and Atlanta around November.

Jason Kidd spoke about the illness extensively before the game against the Cavs. He described the situation as "tough", with the team doing their best to prevent its spread.

“It’s tough. It’s in the locker room, some of the coaches are dealing with it too…All you can do is try to prevent it, stay away from each other as much as possible…," he said.

The Mavericks can't afford any more injury setbacks, with star player Luka Doncic out with a calf strain. Currently, on a four-game losing streak, they face a tough schedule ahead, visiting the Memphis Grizzlies on Jan. 6 before hosting the LA Lakers on Jan. 7.
