D'Angelo Russell decodes his cryptic tweet amid looming contract situation with Lakers: "Nothing to do with basketball"

Amid an uncertain contract situation, D'Angelo Russell made fans think he's leaving the LA Lakers with a simple three-letter message. The Lakers guard spent the last two seasons with the team, trying to make up for his tumultuous first stint with the franchise.

He did it to some extent, but Russell's unresolved matter is still his playoffs performance. His last two playoff performances against the Denver Nuggets have opened the door for speculation about his potential exit from the team. After the Lakers drafted Dalton Knecht from Tennessee on the first day of the 2024 NBA Draft, Russell tweeted on Thursday.

"Wow," he wrote.

After realizing that many fans thought he was referring to the Lakers' draft selection, Russell clarified it had nothing to do with the Lakers or even basketball in general.

"Sorry has nothing to do with basketball. I’m on this podcast wave. Checkout @The_BackyardPod also follow us on snap," Russell clarified.

In his past two seasons with the Lakers, Russell averaged 17.9 points, 6.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds. The veteran guard shot 46.2% from the field and 40.6% from beyond the arc.

His future remains up in the air, but we'll have to wait until free agency starts to see what's next for his career. The Lakers have a new head coach, which could prompt Russell to run it back with LA.

Patrick Beverley suggests a D'Angelo Russell reunion for Warriors

A former Lakers player, Patrick Beverley, recently suggested a move that could send D'Angelo Russell to a familiar team. The Milwaukee Bucks guard speculated that if Russell opts in, he could be traded to the Golden State Warriors, where he played in 2019, and reunite with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green and join forces with Paul George, a rumored Warriors target this offseason.

"If Dlo opt in it, a possibility u can see Steph, PG, Draymond, DLo….," Beverley wrote on Wednesday.

This sounds like a terrific situation for the Warriors, but a lot of things must happen to see these four competing side by side. Russell can stay with the Lakers or seek a new challenge elsewhere.

D'Angelo Russell proved that he could be helpful for the Lakers, but the team still couldn't go all the way in the playoffs. His time with the Warriors wasn't the best as well, but he could give it another try, just like he did with the Purple and Gold.
