D'Angelo Russell and the Brooklyn Nets squared off against the Toronto Raptors in a regular season matchup at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Wednesday. Russell made his season debut for the Nets after recently joining the franchise following a trade from the Lakers.
The dynamic point guard put on an impressive performance, but his individual brilliance couldn’t lift the Nets to victory, as they fell 130-113 on the road.
Russell concluded the game with 22 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-6 from beyond the arc. He also contributed two rebounds, eight assists, one steal and two blocks, while going a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line. The veteran guard logged 26 minutes and posted a plus/minus of +2.

Coming off the bench in his first game, the one-time All-Star immediately provided an offensive spark for his new team. Russell made a strong impact in the first quarter, showcasing his versatile skill set in limited minutes. The former Lakers guard demonstrated his scoring ability in multiple ways while also creating opportunities for his teammates.

In the opening period, Russell tallied seven points on a perfect 2-of-2 shooting, including 1-of-1 from beyond the arc, and converted both of his free throw attempts. He also contributed two assists and one steal, making an all-around impact early in the game.
The Nets guard remained on fire in the second quarter, maintaining his offensive momentum. Although Russell missed three attempts from beyond the arc, he still managed to contribute nine additional points in the period.
By halftime, the former Golden State Warriors standout had racked up 16 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range. He also added four assists, one steal and two turnovers to his stat line.
D'Angelo Russell continued to impress after halftime, despite taking just one shot, which he successfully converted. His defensive energy was contagious and his playmaking in the third quarter was exceptional.
During the period, the veteran guard contributed two points, dished out four additional assists and recorded two rebounds and two blocks, further showcasing his all-around impact on the game.
In the final quarter, Russell converted two of his three shot attempts, showcasing his individual brilliance once again. However, his stellar performance throughout the game wasn’t enough to prevent the Nets from suffering a blowout loss.
