LA Lakers coach JJ Redick continued to bring Dalton Knecht off the bench against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. The first-round pick's minutes were impacted, as he played only nine minutes in the first half. Redick didn't lean too much into Knecht's usage and schemes.
The Tennessee prospect attempted only two shots from the floor, making one. He had four points, though, after making three trips to the foul line and converting twice. Knecht tallied four points and a rebound and was a +/- -4. The Lakers entered halftime trailing the Suns 62-60.
Knecht's playing time didn't improve in the second half. He played another 10 minutes and had an underwhelming run. He attempted five more shots, three from beyond the arc, but made only one, finishing with a measly seven points and four rebounds on 2-of-7 shots.

JJ Redick to reconsider inserting Dalton Knecht in the starting lineup again
With the Lakers losing consecutive games after Tuesday's 127-120 loss to the Phoenix Suns and Saturday's 127-102 loss to the Denver Nuggets, JJ Redick is reconsidering Dalton Knecht's role. Knecht started for the Lakers in four consecutive games between Nov. 15, when the Lakers played the Spurs, and Thursday's contest against the Magic. LA went 3-1 in that span.
The Lakers nearly won against the Magic, but a Franz Wagner game-winner stole the victory from their grasp. LA played some of its best basketball of the season in that stretch, and Dalton Knecht was a huge factor.
He averaged 23.8 points and 4.8 rebounds, shooting on 60/58/86 splits. Knecht was the second-highest scorer on the team. The Lakers had a 121.0 offensive rating in that stretch. Redick ran schemes for his rookie, who earned his veterans' respect on the court.
However, since Rui Hachimura returned over the past two games, Knecht has gone missing. He's played 23.7 minutes, averaging 8.0 ppg, shooting 35.7%, including 25.0% from 3. He lost his rhythm, and that, in turn, has severely impacted the Lakers on offense.
However, after a second consecutive blowout loss, JJ Redick is reconsidering Dalton Knecht, citing his rhythm. After Tuesday's defeat, the rookie coach expressed that he would discuss the possibility with his staff.
