Dalton Knecht has had an up-and-down rookie campaign for the LA Lakers. He started his career coming off the bench before being inserted into the starting lineup in mid-November. Now, he's back to his previous role. How did he perform tonight against the Sacramento Kings?
Knecht played just five minutes and did not appear in the second half. He finished scoreless and didn't take any shots. He had one assist and a turnover, so it was an uneventful outing for the Lakers rookie.
Nevertheless, the Lakers still outlasted the Kings to extend their winning streak to three. It was Knecht's second scoreless game of his career, with his first one on Oct. 28 against the Phoenix Suns. His five minutes of gameplay was the lowest of his career.

How did the LA Lakers rookie perform against the Sacramento Kings?
Dalton Knecht was not part of the LA Lakers' starting five on Saturday night at the Golden 1 Center against the Sacramento Kings. Knecht reverted to his off-the-bench role on Dec. 13 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He has only scored a total of 13 points since then in 42 minutes.
The rookie entered the game at the 3:13 mark of the first quarter to replace Austin Reaves. He played for the rest of the period, dishing an assist to Gabe Vincent and turning it over in back-to-back possessions. He was taken out two minutes in the second quarter.
Coach JJ Redick didn't bring him back later in the period or even in the second half. Knecht has not been playing well since Dec. 1 and has only scored in double figures once. He has reached a new low and could either get his minutes back or receive his first DNP soon.
What's next for Dalton Knecht and the LA Lakers?
The LA Lakers are back in action on Monday when they welcome the Detroit Pistons at the Crypto.com Arena. The Lakers are likely to continue with their starting lineup consisting of Austin Reeves, Max Christie, Rui Hachimura, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Christie has started the past three games for the Lakers, and all of those resulted in a win. Coach JJ Redick likely won't make changes at the moment since everything is working fine.
That means Dalton Knecht will continue coming off the bench unless something changes. Knecht is a good player, who can knock down the ball, though his defense is still questionable.
His skill set might be better off as a sixth man along with D'Angelo Russell. They might have the green light to score buckets as part of the second unit.
