Kendrick Perkins is impressed by the Philadelphia 76er's latest move. The Sixers' general manager, Daryl Morey, recently signed Joel Embiid to a contract extension. The new deal is reportedly a three-year, $193 million extension.
The former MVP's current contract is worth $106.6 million over two seasons. He'll earn $51 million this fall and $55.2 million the following campaign. Emiid's new contract begins during the 2026-27 season. With this extension, he's expected to earn $515 million through five seasons.
After the contract was reported, Perkins applauded Morey for extending Embiid.

"When I first heard this news, the first thing I thought about is that, 'Daryl Morey is a bad mother-holy bleep".

"Think about Daryl Morey. Yes, he's searching for a championship. We understand he's a guy that's leading an organization. But Morey as a general manager, he's one of the best that I've ever seen."
Perk praised Morey's moves during his Philly tenure. The GM drafted Tyrese Maxey with the 21st pick in 2020 and developed him into an All-Star. Over the summer, the Sixers signed Maxey to a five-year, $204 million extension. Morey also signed Paul George to a four-year, $212 million deal this offseason.
The earnings of the 76ers star make him the 4th highest paid player in NBA history
Stars get paid if they deserve it and the 76ers believe Embiid has earned a new deal with the team. ESPN's Ramona Shelburne analyzed the Cameroonian big man's career earnings. According to Shelburne, the seven-time All-Star has earned $514.8 million.
The Sixers feel the 2023 MVP can lead them to a championship, which is why they've made the most of his contracts.
