Derrick Rose opened up about how his career might have turned out had he not been injury-prone. Rose is one of the NBA's biggest "what ifs," as he became the youngest NBA MVP in league history and was named an All-Star three times before injuries.

During a press conference on Saturday, D-Rose looked back on his career path, acknowledging that despite the setbacks, the experience led him to a greater sense of self-awareness and personal growth.

However, given his fierce competitive nature, Rose expressed that if he had won a championship with the Bulls, it wouldn't have been just one title.

"Who knows? But at the same time, with me being obsessed, I wouldn't have found out who I was as a person. I was obsessed with the game — not love — I was obsessed," Rose said.

"So if I would've won one championship, I would have won four, and that would have pulled me away further and further away from finding self-knowledge, self-revelation, identity."

Rose added that as a Chicago native, he learned to be resilient and to make the most of the challenges he faced.

"Everybody's story is different — for some reason mine's ended up being this way — so coming from Chicago, we roll with the punches."

Chicago Bulls set to retire Derrick Rose's jersey number next season

While Derrick Rose was never able to reach the heights he dreamed of, fans and people in the NBA acknowledge the contributions he has made to the league. The Chicago Bulls announced they would retire Rose's jersey number next season.

The organization made the announcement in front of Rose himself. A video of the former star guard went viral on X as D-Rose found himself in tears after the Bulls’ front office told him the news.

Derrick Rose was selected by the Bulls as the No. 1 pick in the 2008 NBA draft. He quickly proved why he was the deserving top pick, winning the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year award by averaging 16.8 points, 6.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds.

In his sophomore year, Rose was named an All-Star, averaging 20.8 ppg, 6.0 apg and 3.8 rpg. Then, at the age of 22, in his third season with the Bulls, Rose was named the MVP, becoming the youngest player to win the prestigious award.

Unfortunately for Derrick Rose, his fourth year with the Chicago Bulls marked his last All-Star season, as it was the beginning of his injury-prone era.

Since then, Rose was never able to play at the same level and slowly became a shell of his former self. Nevertheless, his short-lived superstardom will forever be remembered by the league and fans, hence his upcoming jersey retirement next season.
