The Brooklyn Nets have unveiled their City Edition jerseys for next season, which were designed by KAWS. However, it seems like fans on social media are divided by the Nets' special edition uniforms for the 2023-24 season.

KAWS and the Nets officially confirmed their collaboration on Thursday. Andrew Karson of BSE Global, a parent company of the Nets, explained why the team formed a partnership with the American artist.

"The Brooklyn Nets brand transcends the court in many ways, and we are excited to partner with another Brooklyn icon, KAWS, to deepen our connection to the borough with this newest City Edition uniform," Karson said.
"Brooklyn is home to some of the world's greatest creators across genres of culture including fashion and the arts, and we feel inspired to have the unique ability to marry basketball with the best of our borough."

KAWS, also known by his name Brian Donnelly, is a well-known artist and designer. But what is his connection to the Brooklyn Nets and why was he chosen to design their City Edition jerseys for next season?

The NBA introduced City Edition jerseys in the 2017-18 season to celebrate the heritage of every city in the league. KAWS was born and raised in New Jersey, but currently works and resides in Brooklyn. Since he's a world-renowned artist, it's a no-brainer for the Nets to collaborate with him.

"As a proud Brooklyn resident, I was thrilled when the Nets asked me to create a new uniform design," KAWS said in a team's press release about the jerseys. "The history, community, and passion of this borough create an energy that inspires my studio practice, the players, and the fans. My design aims to capture the vibrancy that we experience daily when navigating Brooklyn."

The Brooklyn Nets (44-36) have not clinched a playoff spot with just two games remaining in the regular season. They are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference standings and are just one game ahead of the Miami Heat (43-37).

To secure the sixth seed, the Nets will have to win their final two games of the regular season against the Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers. They could also hope for the best, which is the Heat losing their last two contests. Miami will face the Washington Wizards and the Magic.

If Brooklyn finishes the season as No. 6, they'll be facing the Sixers in the first round. If they end it as the seventh-seed, they will have to beat the Atlanta Hawks to earn a matchup against the Boston Celtics.
