Trae Young played the role of heartbreaker against LeBron James’ LA Lakers on Friday night, sinking a clutch 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining to erase an 11-point deficit and secure a thrilling comeback win. The loss marked the Lakers’ third straight defeat.
Young finished with a stellar 31 points, 20 assists and five 3-pointers, including the game-winner, spoiling LeBron James’ season-high-tying triple-double performance of 39 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Anthony Davis also shined with 38 points and 10 rebounds, but their combined efforts weren’t enough to prevent the overtime collapse.
Lakers fans expressed frustration over the squandered performances from their two superstars.

In the final moments of overtime, Davis hit a step-back jumper with 43 seconds remaining to put the Lakers up by three. Jalen Johnson responded by making two free throws to trim the lead to one. Davis then turned the ball over, but LeBron came to the rescue with a chase down block on Dyson Daniels.
The Lakers regained possession, but a Hawks-forced jump ball during the ensuing inbounds play gave Atlanta the chance they needed. The ball found its way to a wide-open Young, who buried the decisive triple. James had a final opportunity to win it at the buzzer but missed a 3-pointer.
Fans also criticized Gabe Vincent for his defensive lapse on Young.
"Get Vincent off my team bro. WTF you doing leaving Trae open to go double team with AD already there,” one fan said.
“How do you leave Trae open??” another said.
