Longtime NBA veteran Stephen Jackson's infamous engagement split from Imani Showalter is once again in the headlines. The couple's engagement and failed attempt at marriage has been discussed by the NBA vet over the years, with conflicting stories about what led to their breakup. While there are conflicting details, what's known is that Jackson wanted Showalter to sign a prenup before the wedding.
It would mean that in the event of a divorce, Jackson's NBA earnings would be fair game for Showalter and her legal team to pursue. Shortly after the infamous Malice at the Palace brawl, which landed both Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest in court, Jackson was set to get married in the summer of 2005 to Imani Showalter.
Despite their engagement, he never got married, and no prenup was ever signed. Since then, Stephen Jackson has discussed the situation on numerous occasions. The way he tells things, he had been attempting to get Imani Showalter to sign a prenup for quite some time to no avail.

In his version of events, Showalter kept putting the signing off until the day finally came for the two to get married. At that point, Jackson's sister allegedly told him that Showalter wasn't going to sign the prenup, causing him to walk out.

According to Jackson, who spoke on the Relationships Matter podcast earlier this year:
"I had been telling her two months before we was going to Texas. 'Look, I'm telling you now, you need to sign this prenup. Cause I'm telling you, don't try me when I get there.'
"She kept saying she was gonna sign it, I'm gonna sign it, I'm gonna sign it. But kept getting the attitude every time I brought it to her ...
Looking at Imani Showalter's perspective in her Stephen Jackson's relationship
While Stephen Jackson has indicated that it's Imani Showalter's fault that their wedding never happened, she tells a different story. Although the NBA vet has spoken about the situation on several occasions, Showalter keeps a lower profile.
In 2020, Jackson spoke about the situation on Instagram Live. Several days later, Showalter took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the situation and her side of the story.
As she indicated, Stephen Jackson never sent her the prenup several months before the wedding, like he had previously indicated. Moreover, she also shared a photo from an attorney regarding the prenup along with a caption reading:
"Please look at the date sent.... how can you give me a prenup 2 months before the wedding when this letter clearly states that even 2 weeks before the wedding you haven't even called your financial planner or lawyer back to EVEN DISCUSS A PRENUMP! How can you give me something that wasn't even created yet???
"This letter is dated 2 weeks before the wedding (not the 3-4 months you lied about on live this morning) and also take note of who it was sent to, NOT ME"
Given that the two seem to have completely different views on the subject, it's safe to say that even though this situation occured a long time ago, the pair don't agree on how things played out.
