NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo has passed after his long battle with brain cancer. The Atlanta Hawks great is considered arguably the greatest shot blocker in NBA history. The NBA legend is survived by his wife and his three children. One of his children Ryan Mutombo plays professional basketball.
Ryan Mutombo was one of the best high school players in the United States. After a stellar high school career, Ryan committed to Georgetown University where he played three seasons till 2023-24.
However, after three seasons with the Hoyas, Ryan decided to transfer to Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for the 2024-25 season. However, whether he will opt to declare for the NBA draft is still unclear.
Mutombo has two other biological children and four other kids that he adopted. Except for Ryan Mutombo, the names and occupations of other children are still unknown.

Dikembe Mutombo’s wife Rose is also Congolese. The NBA legend met her in 1995, four years after he was drafted. He met her when he was visiting Kinshasa, the city where the Hall of Fame player grew up. Mutombo and his wife lived in Atlanta and had three children together.
Mutombo and his wife Rose also took on the responsibility of raising the four children of Rose’s deceased brothers. Mutombo also had nine brothers who grew up together in Congo under extreme situations.
Mutombo grew up in Congo and didn't move out of the country till he was 21 years old. He moved to Indiana when he was 22 and decided to play college basketball for Georgetown University in 1988. Mutombo was selected at No. 4 overall in the 1991 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets.
Later, he joined the Atlanta Hawks in 1996 and played for five years. He also played for other teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and the Houston Rockets. Dikembe Mutombo was later inducted into the Hall of Fame after an 18-year illustrious career in the NBA. In his career, Mutombo averaged 9.8 points and 2.8 blocks per game.
The Atlanta Hawks and the Denver Nuggets have retired Dikembe Mutombo's jerseys. He is only one of the three players in NBA history to have won four Defensive Player of the Year Awards.
