In the LA Lakers’ penultimate preseason game on Thursday, Bronny James attempted to dunk over Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, who has had numerous competitive matchups with his father, LeBron James. Although Bronny missed the dunk as Durant challenged him, a foul was called.
The play elicited humorous reactions from fans as many referenced past confrontations between LeBron and Durant. One of LeBron's most iconic moments is his block of a shot by Andre Iguodala in the 2016 Finals, but Durant has also famously blocked LeBron on several fast breaks.
One fan commented on KD's contest of Bronny James’ shot:

“Can’t believe I’m watching KD trying to block Lebrons son,” another said.
“This was hard for my brain to process. KD just tried to block Lebron’s son,” one fan commented.
“Never thought I would see that,” another added.
Other fans referred to it as Bronny James’ “welcome to the league” moment.
“Now thats a welcome to the NBA moment right there,” one said.
Bronny James missed both free throw attempts, finishing the game with four points and two rebounds on 2-for-4 shooting, while also posting a team-high plus-17 in 17 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, Durant concluded the game with 19 points on 13 attempts with eight assists and eight rebounds. The Lakers, led by Dalton Knecht’s impressive 3-point shooting, which netted him 35 points, secured a 128-122 overtime victory.
LeBron James says playing with son Bronny James elicits a 'special feeling'
LeBron James and Bronny James are poised to make history as the NBA's first active father-son duo when the Lakers play their regular season opener next week.
Reflecting on the experience of playing alongside his son, LeBron said (per AP):
“It’s a special feeling, a different feeling, to work with him. When you go to work every day, you want to try to help each other. If it’s a bad day for him, you pick him up. There’s things we can do that doesn’t even need words. We can just look at each other and know.”
LeBron will celebrate his 40th birthday in December, while Bronny turned 20 earlier this month.
Bronny, set for his rookie year in the NBA, declared for the draft after a challenging season at USC, where he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. The 2024-25 season will mark LeBron's 22nd in the league.
