Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is one of the fastest-rising stars since being drafted in 2020. He already has two All-Star appearances (2023 and 2024) and many believe that he could become the next face of the NBA if he continues on his current course.

However, Edwards also has a blemish on his young career. According to ESPN journalist Michael C. Wright, Edwards is 0-for-12 in game-winning/tying shots in the final five seconds of regulation or overtime.

The data also states that the only player who has missed more since Edwards entered the league is LeBron James (0-for-19).

This stat from James and Edwards has caused a stir among NBA fans on X (formerly Twitter). Several of the people who saw the data ripped into Edwards, James or both.

"Don’t ever compare Ant to MJ and Kobe again. And don’t get me started with 'LeBrON iS clUtch,'" one person wrote on X.
"But LeChoke fans swear he's clutch lmao," one person said.
"One day Ant Man can be the goat and be 0-19 like LeBron. He needs to build it up over time," someone tweeted.

On the other hand, some fans shared a different perspective or continued to voice support for both stars.

"Anthony Edwards has a bright future if he sustains the trend. LeBron James has delivered beyond expectation; at this point, anything coming from LeBron is just meant to break records and inspire younger players," one person wrote.
"To be fair, most players would have retired by LeBron's age when Ant was drafted," someone pointed out.
"Bruh finna take over with just less than 5 years in NBA," one person said.

Both Anthony Edwards and LeBron James have hit clutch shots since 2020

Anthony Edwards and LeBron James can both be considered the top players on their respective teams. As such, it is expected that they would be the go-to guy in clutch situations.

While the data posted says that both James and Edwards have missed their game-tying or winning shots in the final five seconds, they have both hit crucial baskets in the game's closing moments.

One example for Anthony Edwards would be against the Houston Rockets on Dec. 27, 2024. Edwards attempted and sank a stepback 3-pointer with 23 seconds left on the clock. His basket put the Timberwolves up by one, 113-112.

Despite having over 20 seconds left in the game, Edwards' basket was the final one scored, making it the game-winning basket.

Meanwhile, LeBron James had a clutch moment in the 2023 Playoffs. In Game 4 of the first round between the LA Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies, LA found themselves trailing by two points with six seconds left in the fourth quarter.

James got the ball on an inbounds pass and drove against Xavier Tillman Sr. The Lakers star got to the basket and hit a lay-up off the backboard with eight-tenths of a second left to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The Lakers went on to win in the extra period 117-111. They would also go on to win that Playoff series in Game 6.
