After being traded by the Utah Jazz in the offseason, Donovan Mitchell is off to a hot start with his new team. The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference, in large part because of the play from their All-Star addition.
So far, Donovan Mitchell is in the midst of a career year. He has his highest scoring average (28.5 points per game), and he's doing so with career-best efficiency. The three-time All-Star is shooting 49.8%, including 41.8% from 3-point range on an impressive 9.2 attempts pet game.
The Cavs (22-13) gave up a plethora of assets to acquire Mitchell, and so far, their move is paying off handsomely. Alongside Darius Garland, Cleveland now has one of the NBA's top backcourt pairings. Combine that with their defensive frontcourt, and they have the makings of a team that can be a real threat come the postseason.

Does Donovan Mitchell deserve an All-Star nomination?
He's going to have some stiff competition, but at this point it's hard to say Donovan Mitchell isn't worthy of an All-Star bid. The 26-year-old has been one in the Western Conference in each of the past three seasons, and his numbers have only gotten better over the years. Mitchell's major roadblock now is that he finds himself in a different conference.

Sitting at fourth in the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers are worth of at least one All-Star. Last season, Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen both made the cut. With another high-caliber player in the mix, things could get tricky for Cleveland.
At this point, one of Cleveland's guards has to make the ASG. After bursting on the scene in his third season last year, Garland is still putting up All-Star numbers. He is averaging 21.5 points and 7.8 assists per game while shooting 39.6% from beyond the arc.
It'll be tough to move Garland to the wayside, but Mitchell has gotten much more of the spotlight this year for Cleveland. He is the team's leading scorer, is second in assists and has had multiple big-time performances throughout the early months of the season.
Garland might still be able to sneak in, but if the Cavaliers only get one All-Star, Mitchell will likely get the nod. Although it isn't "his team" per se, he has still been their best player by far.
The Eastern Conference is loaded with talent at the guard position, but there is definitely a chance that both Cavs guards will find a way on the All-Star roster.
