"Drake burning his Raptors jersey" - NBA fans in frenzy over DeMar DeRozan's cameo in Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss track 'Not Like Us'

DeMar DeRozan has been making waves in the NBA world in the offseason. Aside from being one of the most prominent players available in the market, Derozan has been featured in one of the hottest tracks of the year.

Not only was he mentioned in the lyrics, but DeRozan also made a cameo in Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track “Not Like Us” music video. The Chicago Bulls star was seen sitting with a checkered shirt and a black bandana.

In the video, Derozan was seen during the “I’m glad DeRoz’ came home, y’all didn’t want him neither” verse, which was a reference to Demar’s time with the Toronto Raptors, a team that Drake openly supported in the NBA.

Drake and DeRozan have been friends since the latter’s time with the Raptors. When DeRozan was shipped out of Toronto in 2018, Drake was one of those who comforted the six-time All-Star, even penning him a long sweet tribute in his Instagram at the time.

With so much history with whom the diss track is referring, DeRozan’s appearance in Lamar’s music video left fans shocked. Particularly, Raptors fans expressed their disbelief at their former star’s decision to be in Lamar’s song.

“DeMar breaking up with Drake,” said another fan.

Other fans acknowledged what could be DeRozan’s pent-up feelings with the Raptors after the 2018 trade that brought the team Kawhi Leonard who then brought them the NBA championship in 2019.

Some fans even speculated that DeRozans’s appearance is connected to him going to the Los Angeles Lakers this season, considering he remains available in free agency.

Last month, Derozan was also seen dancing to the Drake diss track on stage with Lamar in a Los Angeles show, along with L.A. native Russell Westbrook.

DeMar DeRozan’s L.A Lakers rumors

DeMar DeRozan has been on the short list of targets in the offseason by the L.A Lakers. However, with the recent max signing of LeBron James, that move looks bleak now considering the cap situation of the team.

Despite that, DeRozan can still find his way to the Lakers via sign-and-trade with the Bulls. Another way is if he takes a massive pay cut and signs a mid-level exception worth $12.9 million for the Lakers.

DeRozan has made it known that he wants to play for the Lakers since 2021, when a trade for him to L.A. failed to materialize, making way for the Westbrook acquisition in that year.

If this time turns out to be DeRozan’s year he finally joins the Lakers, the team would assemble a big three alongside James, and Anthony Davis for perhaps another run at a championship.
