There was a level of excitement surrounding Team Canada in the 2024 Paris Olympics as they were led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and other promising NBA talent. However, their Olympic journey was cut short today with a disappointing 82-73 loss to France. Following their elimination, several fans mocked Canada for coming up short in the international competition.
They cut the deficit by six points with 2:04 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. However, France made enough winning plays through timely defensive stops and some tough shotmaking from Evan Fournier to punch their ticket for the semifinals.
The OKC Thunder guard and Canada came close in their comeback but ultimately fell short as they got sent home packing. Numerous basketball fans shared their reactions on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Drake is about to make some calls," a fan said.

X user desire (@dgsire) mocked Shai Gilgeous-Alexander by pointing to his reliance on free throws to win a ball game for his team.
"Not enough free throws for SGA," the fan posted.
"Bye bye Shai," a fan said.
X user AJ Lusby (@AJ_Lusby) credited the team's skill set but wondered what might be looking for the unit to take the next step.
"Skill is there ... but something is missing. Toughness? Heart? I can't call it. Wiggins could've made a difference, but maybe not. He might also lack those two things. Anyway, good job France!" a fan posted.
Despite going 3-0 in the group phase, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Team Canada's Olympic aspirations will be put to rest this summer following their exit.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander addressed Canada's disappointing loss to France
In their quarterfinal matchup against France, Canada looked outmatched for much of the first half until they found some rhythm in the second half. However, it wasn't enough to stifle their opponent's efforts as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shared what went wrong for his team.
"They just played with more force, and, like I said, they were the aggressors on both ends of the floor," Gilgeous-Alexander said (h/t BasketNews). "Yeah, nobody does. But if you don't earn it, that's what happens. You lose. I think it was just the start, the urgency, the investment, and not paying attention to the details. When you start like that, it's hard to play against any team."
Despite the loss, the Thunder star put up 27 points (47.4% shooting, including 25.0% from beyond the arc), five rebounds and four assists.
