When you play with Draymond Green, there's a good chance that a hot mic moment is coming your way. Buddy Hield had one in the Golden State Warriors-Phoenix Suns game on Sunday but, as he had to learn the hard way, that's just Draymond.

The Warriors' do-it-all point forward got extremely heated at Hield midway through the third quarter when the sweet-shooting guard threw a bad overhead pass that was tapped by defender Tyus Jones. Before any Suns player could grab the ball, Green hustled to get it back but threw up an airball as the shot clock expired.

As the Warriors got back on defense, Green yelled so loudly at his teammate that the TV broadcast picked up his words loud and clear:

"Wake the f**k up or go sit the f**k down!," hollered the four-time NBA champion.

After the Warriors defeated the Suns 109-105, Green offered no apologies for his choice of words.

"Mics catch everything today. I don't care," said Green at the post-game press conference. "I'll say it right into the mic."

Draymond Green, the vocal figurehead of the Warriors' roster, explained that his tough-love approach on Hield was part of his effort to lead and bring out the best in his teammates:

"We're 16-15. We don't love this [record]. So do we just keep on doing the same thing and sit back on our hands... or do you make a change? I know what it looks like to win. I know what it takes to win."

While Hield's 0-for-7 performance against the Suns might not have been the type of change Green was looking for, his numbers thus far in a Warriors jersey show a slight uptick from last season. These stats include more points per game (13.2 versus 12.1 in 2023-2024), as well as an improved field goal percentage and outside shooting clip.

Draymond Green got heated on Christmas Day too

While Draymond Green has his reasons for speaking harshly to his teammates, it's not difficult to figure out why he figures in verbal altercations with his opponents.

One such instance occurred during the Warriors' Christmas Day showdown against the Los Angeles Lakers. During this play, Green provided help defense on a driving Max Christie and blocked a shot attempt by the Lakers guard. Afterward, Green let Christie have it:

"F**k are you doing? This is me you’re going at, n****! F**k wrong with you?"

Christie ended up having the last laugh as the Lakers defeated the Warriors 115-113. Draymond Green, though, will hardly be deterred from his tough-talking ways as the rest of the season unfolds.
