Dofade and daughter Zaya launch Translatable

Dwyane Wade has been a vocal trans rights advocate after his daughter Zaya came out as trans. He has worked to educate himself and others on trans topics. He also has been an outspoken critic against anti-trans laws in the state of Florida. He even sold his Florida home and moved to California.

Now, Wade and his daughter are launching Translatable. It is a new online community designed to support transgender youth and their families. The new platform is designed by Zaya, according to Wade.

“It’s her baby,” Wade said.

The Wade Family Foundation is funding the project. He is also contributing the $250,000 he received for winning The Elevate Prize Catalyst Award to Translatable. The award was given to Wade for his work in the trans community by The Elevate Prize Foundation. The foundation is hoping their support spreads Translatable to new donors. Past winners of the award have included actor Matt Damon, activist Malala Yousafzai and actor Michael J. Fox.

The foundation also made a separate donation to the new platform. Other well-known LGBT activist groups like The Trevor Project and Human Rights Campaign are supporting Translatable as well.

Dwyane Wade hopes the digital community will “support growth, mental health, and well-being, and that this space ignites more conversations leading to greater understanding and acceptance.” The site was launched in Florida as a public display against anti-trans laws in the state. According to the Ali Forney Center, more than 500 pieces of anti-LGBT legislation have been introduced across the United States in 2024.

The platform hopes to educate families and also provide a safe space for transgender youth who feel targeted by anti-LGBT legislation. Dwyane Wade hopes to provide a place where people can educate themselves on trans issues and come to a better understanding so trans youth feel safer. The Hall of Famer's name also brings the platform into a bigger spotlight.
