Dwyane Wade surprises daughter Kaavia James with memorable gift on her 6th birthday

Dwyane Wade gave his Barbie-loving daughter Kaavia James an unforgettable gift for her sixth birthday on Thursday, bringing her favorite fantasy to life with a special play date. He hired someone dressed as Barbie to kick off her morning in a pink-themed room, specially designed to celebrate her fandom.

In a series of Instagram stories, Wade shared moments from the morning, showing Kaavia enjoying her time with her “real-life” Barbie friend in the pink room while wearing a coordinated pink outfit and Barbie slippers.

Wade also shared a view of the area outside Kaavia’s playroom, where dogs stood guard to “protect” his daughter.

The Wade family is a blended one. Dwyane gained custody of Zaya and Zaire after his divorce from their mother, Siohvaughn Funches-Wade. He is also father to Xavier, whom he shares with Aja Metoyer, and Kaavia, his child with Gabrielle Union.

In an interview with TODAY.com in January, Dwyane Wade expressed the joy he finds in bonding with his daughter:

"We dance. We sing. We play Barbie all the time. We do all the princess things. I actually let her put makeup on me, whatever she wants to do. I'm that dad."

Wade also opened up about how spending time with his children has reshaped his priorities:

"I'm in love with my kids. To me, nothing comes before them in that space. And so I'm trying to show how much I'm in love with them and how this is going to allow them to be able to grow and evolve and be successful."

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union, who married on Aug. 30, 2014, celebrated their 10-year anniversary this year.

In February, Wade posted a joyful family moment on Instagram, featuring him, Gabrielle Union and Kaavia James dancing together to Tyla’s song "Water." In the video, Kaavia, who styled the family and led the choreography, showed off her superstar moves alongside her parents.

Union impressed with her dance skills, while Wade added a playful touch with his goofy moves, and Kaavia took center stage with confidence.

“Here’s one min of a Friday night at The Wades directed by Kaavia. She designed the looks, picked all the songs, instructed us to do solo performances as well as groups. Happy Saturday good people! Oh btw, this is her new favorite song she calls sweat,” Wade said.

Kaavia, now six, is Wade’s youngest child and has a popular Instagram account run by her parents, boasting 1.8 million followers.
