Lakers fans defended their rookie Bronny James after the Washington Wizards’ No. 2 pick Alex Sarr struggled in the Summer League. Bronny, the 55th pick, has also faced criticism for his low-efficiency performances so far.

In his last two Summer League games, Sarr scored just two points in total. He went scoreless on 0-for-15 shooting with nine rebounds against the Portland Trail Blazers and followed it with a two-point performance on 1-for-6 shooting with 11 rebounds against the Sacramento Kings.

Fans have criticized the harsh judgment of Bronny James, highlighting Sarr’s 1-for-21 shooting stretch over his last two outings.

“Everyone is silent now,” said X (formerly Twitter) user @Crypt_Gh0st.
“Imagine being 7 foot and going 1-21,” said @imdannydope.

Sarr, a 19-year-old from France, played last season with the Perth Wildcats in the NBL in Australia. He averaged 9.7 points per game on 52% shooting from the field en route to establishing himself as one of the top prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Some fans remained optimistic about Bronny James proving his critics wrong in the future.

“Bronny James gonna prove everyone wrong soon enough so it’s all good,” said @NYCDaFuture_.
“It’s so obvious people will nitpick everything Bronny does and ignore everything else, this doesn’t fit their narrative that Bronny doesn’t deserve to be here so they don’t care,” said @LosPollosTV.

Here are some reactions to Sarr’s stretch of poor-shooting games in relation to Bronny James’ showing so far:

Bronny James scores 25 points in last two games

Bronny James entered Thursday night's Summer League game against the Cleveland Cavaliers after the best game of his young professional career.

He scored a career-high 12 points against the Hawks on 5-for-11 shooting from the field, including two made 3-pointers on five attempts, helping the Lakers secure their first Summer League win.

On Thursday, Bronny James set a new career high with 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting in a 93-89 win against the Cavaliers. He also contributed five rebounds, three steals and two blocks in 25 minutes of play.

As his shots started to fall against the Hawks, Bronny said his father and teammate LeBron James had given him advice on how he should play amid his struggles.

"Just stay aggressive," Bronny said. "Even though my shot hasn't been falling, just staying aggressive."

Bronny struggled in his first four games in the Summer League, averaging 4.3 points on a poor 22.6% shooting from the field, including missing all 15 of his 3-point attempts.
