Dave Portnoy vehemently roots for France to annihilate Team USA after Jayson Tatum's 'disrespect'

Amidst all the success that Team USA has had in the Paris Olympics, benching Jayson Tatum has been a very controversial decision from head coach Steve Kerr.

The move to bench one of the best players in the league has been criticized by many basketball analysts. But, nobody is as furious as Dave Portnoy about it.

Dave Portnoy took to his social media handle to express his frustration with Tatum being benched against Serbia. The founder of Barstool Sports was so furious with Kerr’s decision to bench Tatum that he said he was rooting against his own country in the Olympics semifinal.

In a three-minute-long video that Portnoy posted on X, he said that Jayson Tatum was a champion and Kerr disrespected him by not playing him. He also questioned Kerr’s credibility as a coach and also used expletives against him.

“Let me say this as clearly as bluntly as straightforward as I can. I was rooting against them and I want France to beat them by a thousand points,” Portnoy said. “I don’t care that I am an American. The disrespect that Steve Kerr has shown Jayson Tattum throughout this tournament makes me hate this team..Steve Kerr you moron!
“To make this guy ,who is a true superstar in this league, be embarrassed like this, f**k you Steve Kerr! Steve Kerr hasn’t done d*ck…f**k that guy.”

Portnoy also took shots at LeBron James, calling out his old age and saying that he hated him. He also took shots at Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, highlighting that the Phoenix Suns duo failed to win a title together.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Steve Kerr has benched Jayson Tatum at the Olympics. The Celtics superstar had been benched twice in the USA’s five games in the Paris Olympics so far. Both times, the team against which Tatum got no playing time was Serbia.

Bob Cousy calls out Steve Kerr for embarrassing Jayson Tatum against Serbia

Dave Portnoy isn't the only Celtics fan who is flabbergasted by Steve Kerr's decision to bench Jayson Tatum. Boston Celtics great and six-time NBA champion Bob Cousy slammed the Team USA coach for benching the power forward.

In a rant against Kerr's decision, Cousy told the Boston Globe that the coach had 'embarrassed' Tatum. He also added that the Warriors coach might be biased against the Celtics.

"This isn't just a snub. This is an embarrassment for that poor kid all over the [expletive] world. The Olympics have gotten that big. Everyone's going to think that there's something wrong this this kid.
"When Kerr did it last week, he was in no danger of losing the game, but in this case, they got down by 17 points and he's got to worry about losing the game...to me, there's got to be some kind of bias that he's got against the Celtics."

When Steve Kerr was asked about benching the NBA superstar, he said that it was the roster's particular combination and the "maths" that he had to take that call on.

Given how much flak Kerr has received for his decision, it would be interesting to see how he treats Jayson Tatum's minutes in the gold medal game against France.
