"New Jersey Sixers sounds horrible," one fan commented.
The Sixers are a historic franchise and fans don't want to see them outside the city of Philadelphia.
"Can’t imagine Philadelphia without basketball," one fan said.
"Na, stay in Philadelphia. For historical reasons. This just doesn’t sit well with me." Another fan said.
"That would be insane if Phila is left without a basketball team," said one fan.
Originally the Syracuse Nationals, the Sixers are one of the NBA's most historic franchises. They've been in Philadelphia since 1963, where they've built a strong legacy in one of the country's most iconic cities.
Since the Sixers franchise was established, they've won two NBA championships. The most recent was in 1983, when the team was led by Julius Erving and Moses Malone.
Philadelphia 76ers have been "meeting regularly" with New Jersey officials about a potential move
In the story breaking down the Philadelphia 76ers' potential move to New Jersey, it was mentioned that the proposal didn't come out of the blue. According to ROI-NJ, both sides have been meeting consistently to discuss this massive move.
“We have worked tirelessly for the past five years to build an arena in Philadelphia, and negotiations remain ongoing with city leadership regarding our proposal at Market East," the team's spokesperson said.
"The reality is, we are running out of time to reach an agreement that will allow the 76ers to open our new home in time for the 2031-32 NBA season. As a result, we must take all potential options seriously, including this one.”
The Philadelphia 76ers have strong ties to the city of Camden. In 2016, they opened a brand new training facility in the area.
Relocating would be a seismic move for the franchise, given their current standing in the league. The Sixers are going to be a massive draw in 2025 after signing Paul George. With a big trio of PGs, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, they are expected to be in the title hunt this upcoming season.
