Fans shared their reactions to the Washington Wizards drafting Alex Sarr with the second pick of the NBA draft on Wednesday night. The draft was off to a great start after the Atlanta Hawks selected Zaccharie Risacher as the top pick. This time, the Wizards have secured their future with Sarr.

Sarr was expected to be drafted early as a top three pick. After his fellow Frenchman went No. 1, it was clear that the Wizards had plans with the 7-foot center. Washington needed a new talent to cheer on after trading away Bradley Beal before the 2023-24 season and the team struggled.

Now, the Wizards are tasked with developing the international talent.

Alex Sarr's brother went undrafted in 2021

Alex Sarr was emotional as his name was called. As he was asked about how he felt after getting drafted, the new NBA player showed his appreciation for his brother, Olivier, who helped him with his journey into the league.

"He shared a lot with me," Sarr said. "Everything I've learned is through him, and he gave me all his knowledge, and to this day, it's truly special to have someone like him in my corner."

Sarr said that he knows what it feels like to be undrafted and was grateful to be able to hear his name called by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

In 2021, Olivier Sarr was part of the draft class with Cade Cunningham and Scottie Barnes. However, the event concluded without the commissioner calling his name, leaving him undrafted. His path to the league wasn't over as he was part of the Memphis Grizzlies for the NBA Summer League.

He signed a deal with the OKC Thunder but was waived shortly after. Sarr joined the Oklahoma City Blue in the G League. He secured a two-way contract with the Thunder in 2023 and had the chance to showcase his talent. He played 15 games in the previous season, averaging 2.3 points and 2.4 points.
