Dwyane Wade has been very supportive of his daughter Zaya Wade, who came out as transgender in 2020. Wade even moved his family from Florida to California to avoid anti-LGBTQ laws. However, it seems like they can't escape the divisive nature of the internet.
On the latest episode of the Club 520 podcast, former NBA champion Jeff Teague and his co-hosts could not stop laughing about an old meme about Dwyane and Zaya.
The meme was supposedly about Miami Heat legend trying to teach his daughter how to dribble, while Teague struggled to contain his laughter. He held it in as long as possible but eventually fell to the floor, overcome with amusement.

For those unaware, the meme does not actually depict Dwyane Wade teaching Zaya how to dribble. Instead, it shows a child dribbling the ball with their behind while twerking — a scene some might find amusing like any other social media meme.
However, others were offended, considering Zaya is a transgender girl who transitioned in 2020. Unlike her older brother, Zaire Wade, a professional basketball player, Zaya has not expressed any interest in playing basketball.
Here's the original meme:
Jeff Teague's 520 Club podcast also faced criticism following Charleston White's appearance less than two weeks ago. White's comments about Angel Reese and other WNBA players sparked outrage on social media. The hosts were criticized for laughing at White's controversial remarks, leaving some fans baffled.
One of the hosts, Brandon Hicks, tried to contain his laughter, as they were hoping to be invited to the 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, where the podcast is based. Despite the backlash, the podcast is sponsored by DraftKings, which is also the official betting partner of the NBA and WNBA.
Dwyane Wade opened up about Zaya's transition
Speaking on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe in Sep. 2023, Dwyane Wade opened up about his feelings after Zaya's transition. Wade admitted that it was hard to accept at first, especially knowing that he had plans for her when she was younger.
However, the Miami Heat legend knew early on that Zaya was different, so the transition went smoothly and only the people who didn't know them personally had a hard time with it.
"A lot of people like to talk about Zaya's transition, but to me, Zaya hasn't transitioned into anything," Dwyane said, according to People. "She's but a kid, and now becoming a young adult. I've watched her go through life. There hasn't been any transition for us. There's been a transition for the world."
Sharpe praised Dwyane for accepting his daughter's wishes, acknowledging that it can be challenging for parents who were raised with a specific set of beliefs.
