Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra addressed the two-game suspension of the team's star forward, Jimmy Butler. The Heat suspended Butler on Wednesday following a missed team flight. Miami is scheduled to play against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday and will end their road trip on Saturday against the Brooklyn Nets.
Miami stated on Wednesday that the team punished Butler for nine games in January alone. The organization expressed the forward's suspension as a “continued pattern of disregard of team rules, insubordinate conduct, and conduct detrimental to the team.”

"The point that I made to our team is, get used to it, get over it," Spo said. "This is the NBA life. This is the life we chose. If you think that it's just going to be predictable, you're really mistaken."
"Nothing changes in terms of what the task is. We have a game tonight, we have enough continuity, we know what our identity is at this point. You can make any excuse you want to."
During the early days of the month, Butler was given a seven-game suspension for "conduct detrimental to the team." This decision from the front office came after the six-time All-Star requested a trade.
Jimmy Butler's request has not progressed so far. The 6-foot-7 forward and the organization are currently at a stalemate.
After his first suspension, Butler played three games. In those games, the Heat had a 1-2 record. The former Chicago Bulls forward averaged 13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists on 45.2 percent shooting from the field. In his first game back, he recorded 18 points in a 113-133 loss against the Denver Nuggets on Jan. 17.
In the 2024-25 season, Butler has played 25 games, averaging 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
Jimmy Butler's relationship with the Heat is 'over'
Jimmy Butler's relationship with the organization will never be the same following his second suspension in under a month, ESPN's Shams Charania reported. On Thursday, Charania appeared as a guest on "The Pat McAfee Show" and discussed Miami's situation with their disgruntled star.
"This relationship is over with as far as where they're at, I don't think you're gonna put the genie back in the bottle," Charania said.
Earlier this week, Charania reported that Butler "tripled down" on his trade request. The insider also revealed that the 35-year-old star informed the Heat about his plans not to travel with the team on their way to Milwaukee.
However, his actions still led to the organization banning him, leaving him in his home in Miami.
