Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas humorously shared how he constantly tries to get his son Alijah to shoot the ball. As the soon-to-be 18-year-old shooting guard scored 56 points at "The Classic at Damien" on Friday, his father had something to say about his scoring prowess.
Reacting to the video that showed Arenas' best plays during his 56-point outburst, the former Golden State Warriors draftee shared a video of Andre Iguodala yelling at Andrew Wiggins to try to explain how he urged his son to keep shooting and not pass the ball.
"Whenever I see him try to pass 🤣," Arenas captioned the post.

Of course, this was a joke, but seeing all the points Alijah scored, it's easy to see that he's a prolific scorer. His highlights show that he can attack and finish at the rim, but also that he can shoot from mid and long-range. Contrary to what his father said, Arenas dished assists and showed a little playmaking ability.
This was a terrific game for two specific players, as Alijah found a terrific opponent in Uriah Tenette of Arizona's Prescott High. Arenas led Chatsworth High to a tight 93-87 win in overtime, with these two players combining for 110 points.
Before this duel, Alijah Arenas had starred in another high-flying matchup on Thursday. Inglewood's Jason Crowe Jr. went at it with Arenas, finishing with 55 points to lead his squad to a closer 88-84 win. Arenas responded with 34 points after a poor 0-11 start from the field.
Gilbert Arenas breaks down tough regimen for son Alijah Arenas
Gilbert Arenas is doing everything he can to make his kid the best possible player. So much so that he's instilled a regiment to make sure Alijah Arenas can perform at the highest level. The former Washington Wizards star said that his son is coming from a different upbringing than players who don't have former athletes as parents.
"Their work ethic is coming from, 'I don't want to be here anymore,'" Gilbert said on The Pivot Podcast on Dec. 4. "You (Alijah) don't have that."
Arenas worked to try to get a different mentality out of his son.
"You have to create this tiger-like instinct just for survival," Gilbert said. "That's what I had to do with him."
After re-classifying out of the 2026 class, Gilbert Arenas' son is now a top prospect in the Class of 2025. He has received offers from big programs such as UCLA, Texas and Kansas.
