NBA analyst Jason Timpf believes the Golden State Warriors should trade Jonathan Kuminga. The young asset, who's on a $7,636,307 expiring contract, is one of their best trade prospects. Kuminga is also struggling to fit in with the Warriors.
Coach Steve Kerr hasn't hesitated to point out the flaws in his game lately, especially with his jab at young players taking ill-advised shots when they could pass the ball to Steph Curry.
Timpf highlighted that as one of the factors in his analysis of why the Warriors should trade Kuminga. Here's what the analyst said on his podcast, "Hoops Tonight" on Thursday:
"All year long they've (Warriors) been substantially better with him (Kuminga) off the floor versus on. It's in the best interests of all parties to move on.

"He's not helping the Warriors, he's probably making them a bit worse. ... He's not going to be a superstar. He does not have that upside, so it's not in the best interests of the Golden State Warriors organization in the long run." (28:49)
Timpf suggested that Kuminga should ideally be on a team where he can be allowed to make mistakes. The Warriors aren't the place for him to be, as that's hindering his development and holding the team back with his unpolished game.
Jonathan Kuminga's numbers have also gotten worse than the previous season. He's averaging 15.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, shooting only 44.0%, including 32.0% from 3 and 61.5% from the free-throw line. All his shooting averages are career lows.
Jonathan Kuminga could be a key trade piece as Warriors eye big moves
If the Warriors are serious about adding another co-star before the trade deadline, Jonathan Kuminga's days with the team could be numbered. The Warriors are linked with the hottest name on the market, Jimmy Butler. Rumors suggest the Heat star prefers a move out of Miami leading up to the trade deadline. The Heat have denied the rumors, saying they will not trade Butler.
However, the business side of things can be unpredictable in the NBA. The Warriors could use an upgrade like that to provide Steph Curry some adequate help to contend for another title.
Whether it's for Butler or any other top player, Kuminga will ultimately be the key. The Warriors have previously preferred not to include him in trade talks, but amid his recent slump and the team's poor run, they might be more willing to part ways with him, especially with Kuminga having only one year left on his deal.
