It's not easy to have one of your sons make it to the NBA, much less two of them. That's why the Thompson family should be very proud of what they've accomplished.

Amen was drafted No. 4 by the Houston Rockets and Ausar, his twin, was taken just one spot below by the Detroit Pistons.

They starred in a wholesome moment when both their teams clashed on Monday. However, with the Pistons beating Houston, Amen knows he will be in for a long couple of days:

“I’m not even gonna open my phone, bro,” Amen told the Houston Chronicle after the game. “I can’t even do it. I got his messages on silent.”
“I’m just gonna brag,” Ausar confirmed. “Talk to him about it all day.”

All jokes aside, this was quite a special moment for the Thompsons. It was the first time they got to start against one another since they entered the league:

“It’s something we dreamed of our whole lives,” Amen said. “First start against each other, damn, that’s crazy. I didn’t think about that.”

The Thompson brothers don't compete between them

The Thompson twins have drawn praise for their rare athleticism and versatility. They can guard almost every position, play on and off the ball, create for others, and make winning plays on both ends of the floor.

Amen found more success in his rookie season, and Ausar also had to miss some time in his second year. Nonetheless, they're not trying to compete with one another, as they know they still have to prove themselves:

“Honestly, no. But last year he was talking about, ‘Y’all had 14 wins, if you flip that around that’s how many wins we had,’ ” Ausar said. “But neither of us made the playoffs, so we didn’t do anything, you know what I’m saying? Unless he wins a championship or I win a championship here, I didn’t do nothing to beat him.”

The Pistons have been the most-improved team in the NBA under J.B. Bickerstaff, and they could even end up making the playoffs this season.

The Rockets, on the other hand, were also surprisingly good in the first half of the campaign, and, barring a major turn of events, they should also be playing after the end of the regular season.

It's still way too early to tell, and both teams are still years away from NBA championship contention. But who knows? Maybe one day, they will get the chance to square off on the biggest stage.
