LeBron James and his Bronny will look to become the first father-son due to play in the NBA together. There have been a lot of father-son duos to play in the league, but not at the same time. LeBron and Bronny have the opportunity to make history next season if they play as teammates for the LA Lakers.
"The King" has always dreamed of playing with Bronny and made it known the past two seasons. He drew the inspiration from the Griffeys in the MLB, with Ken Griffey Jr. as one of his sporting idols.
In an interview with ESPN's Dave McMenamin, LA Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka discussed the LeBron-Bronny duo making history next season. Pelinka also acknowledged LeBron's possible free agency although he's not worried about it.

"In the history of the NBA, there's never been a father and a son that have shared an NBA basketball court and that feels like something that could be magical. We know, and have to respect of course, that LeBron has a decision on his opt-out ... but if it worked out that he was on our team next season, NBA history could be made. And NBA history should be made in a Lakers uniform," Pelinka said.
There are a lot of factors why there has not been a father-son duo in the league at the same time. LeBron James entered the league at such a young age and became a father afterward. He also had the longevity to make it happen, while also showing support for his son's dream of playing professional basketball.
LeBron's longevity is not something every player has because it takes a lot of money, time and dedication. He has invested a lot to keep Father Time at bay and he's going to one-up him again by making history next season.
Famous father and sons in the NBA
LeBron and Bronny James are not the first father-son duo the league has ever seen. There have been a lot of fathers and sons who made it, but not at the same time. Some of the famous fathers and sons in basketball history include the following:
- Rick Barry and his three sons – Jon, Brent and Drew.
- Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest to ever play and his father Joe was in the league for eight seasons.
- There are 35 current NBA players whose fathers played in the league such as Steph Curry, Devin Booker, Klay Thompson, Domantas Sabonis, Andrew Wiggins, Kevin Love, Jaren Jackson Jr. and more.
But for Bronny and LeBron to make history, the 19-year-old guard will need to make the LA Lakers roster. He has a good shot at making the final roster, especially if he can play great at the Summer League and training camp. He has the skill set to succeed and play alongside his father next season.
