After Victor Wembanyama's rookie season ended, fans across the NBA were ready to crown "Wemby" as one of the next faces of the league moving forward. However, the Frenchman's sophomore season has left a sour taste in the mouths of some viewers who want his talent to start translating into wins for the San Antonio Spurs. Since he's turned 21 years old, his stats have seemingly taken a slight hit, something that one fan jokingly pointed out.
While this is a skewed sample size, with Wembanyama only playing six games since turning 21 on Jan. 4, the message is clear; Wemby can't do it all himself. This has led fans to voice their opinions on the team around the former #1 overall pick, specifically the defensive deficiencies that leave a lot to be asked of their 7-footer.
Some fans supported Wembanyama, asking the San Antonio Spurs to bring in more help alongside the second-year center.

"He needs help! The way he scrambles to cover defense deficiencies is ridiculous!" one fan commented.
"wonder how much of this has to do with him having to be constantly everywhere on defense," another said.
“This is the worst he’ll ever be,” one fan joked.
Other fans were more pessimistic, both about Victor Wembanyama himself and the roster that the Spurs have put around him, saying:
"I’d become an avid alcohol drinker too if I played on this spurs team," one fan wrote.
"I’m sure our generational talent turned into Gobert with shot chucking," another said.
"At least the rebounding improved..." another fan mused.
What help can the Spurs give Victor Wembanyama before the trade deadline?
As the trade deadline approaches, the San Antonio Spurs have become a dark horse team being attached to some of the bigger names that could become available, including Zion Williamson and Jimmy Butler. The front office is under pressure to not waste valuable years of Victor Wembanyama's career, especially considering the looming risk of injury that a player of his stature presents every time he takes the floor.
Wembanyama has the Spurs sitting at 19-21, only one game behind the 10th-seeded Phoenix Suns for the last play-in spot in the Western Conference. The second-year pro is averaging 24.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and a league-leading 4.1 blocks per game. If the Spurs do decide to bring in another star to play alongside Wemby, they might advance themselves further through the rebuild process than many expect.
