The LA Lakers made a fringe move by re-signing 6-foot-3 guard Quincy Olivari after reports emerged that LeBron James is "growing concerned" as the team's trade hopes faded. LA could end up having another quiet deadline after staying put following the addition of Dorian Finney-Smith in December.

While re-signing Olivari isn't a huge move, it still impressed many as the guard had become a fan favorite with the Lakers. Olivari was let go on Jan. 15 as the Lakers signed Trey Jemison III to a two-way spot.

However, the South Bay Lakers exercised their option to Olivari's returning player rights, thus keeping the fanbase's and players' hopes of playing for the Purple and Gold alive. Olivari was one of the breakout performers during the preseason, which earned him a two-way contract.

Particularly, the game against the Warriors on Oct. 18 is when Quincy Olivari earned a deal with the Lakers. He had 22 points and seven rebounds on 50.0% shooting, including 5 of 9 from 3. Before that, he led LA to its first preseason win against the Bucks on Oct. 10, scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter on 4 of 6 shots to seal a comeback win.

As the South Bay Lakers announced Olivari's return, fans commended that move. One X user wrote:

"Yooooooooooo what type of witchcraft is this lol let's gooooo"
"We are so back," another added

One fan tweeted:

"Lakers playing chess while everyone else playing checkers," one fan said.
"He's better than Bronny," another said.

LeBron James wants Lakers to make big moves

LeBron James' intention to compete for a championship seems clear. The Lakers superstar wants the team to move its first-round draft capital for win-now moves. According to insider Shams Charania, LeBron and Anthony Davis believe the Lakers are a couple of moves away.

The Lakers don't mind trading their draft capital for players who would not only be helpful now but also in the long run under coach JJ Redick. However, their approach needs to get creative because of the new CBA. Redick said on Wednesday that it's something holding the Lakers back as direct trades is something that's not as easy to do in this market.
