Washington Wizards rookie Alex Sarr is reportedly switching his jersey number from No. 12 to No. 20. This comes after Sarr's abysmal shooting performance in Washington's Summer League game versus the Portland Trailblazers.

In 30 minutes, Alex Sarr finished the game without a basket, shooting 0-for-15 from the field and 0-for-7 from behind the arc. The No. 2 pick recorded three assists, nine rebounds and three blocks.

Following the game, Sarr faced heavy criticism for his poor shooting night, with some fans labeling the 19-year-old a bust.

"bra had to change his whole flow after shooting 0/15," a fan joked.
"Call me crazy but this confirms to me that he’s going to be a bust. If dude is already in his head about his jersey number he doesn’t have a chance in the league." another fan stated.
"That 0/15 game has him tweaking already 😭😭😭," one commented.

Fans continued to joke on X:

"Funniest solution to shooting 0/15 ever lmao," another fan joked.

Some fans came to the defense of the rookie:

"20 was his number before the draft and now that the wizards cut the player that previously wore #20, Landry shamet, Sarr has now switched his number to his preferred number. It’s not that deep, he’s not in his head he just had to wait for the number to become available." a fan argued.
"Just think for a second instead of being dumb," another fan stated.

Alex Sarr eyes bounce back game vs. Kings

Alex Sarr will look to prove fans wrong in Washington's Thursday night matchup versus the Sacramento Kings.

The rookie performed well in the team's first Summer League game, notching 12 points (4-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four assists, seven rebounds and four blocks.

Sarr was the top-ranked prospect on numerous ranking sites, including Yahoo Sports' Top 40 Rankings, landing in Washington as the second-overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. He currently has the second-best odds (+700) to win the 2024 Rookie of the Year award, behind Zach Edey (+600), per BetMGM.

Washington is projected to be one of the worst teams in the NBA this season, putting them in the running to win the Cooper Flagg lottery next offseason.
