The Dallas Mavericks introduced Klay Thompson a few days ago with hype and excitement. After 13 years playing for the Golden State Warriors, “Game 6 Klay” decided to take his talents to the Lone Star State. He becomes the third superstar on a team with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

After the press conference, Thompson promptly went to the gym to work out. He told reporters that he wasn’t out to break shooting records. His only intent in signing with the Mavericks was to help the team win a championship.

On Sunday, a clip of Klay Thompson working out became viral. Fans promptly reacted to the video:

“Klay Thompson is so washed

“Mavs are cooked, im crine”

One fan commented:

“He has no lift or speed now, Luka will make his job way easier tho so he just has to hit spot-up 3s
“But I definitely think he's overpaid”

Another fan trolled Thompson:

“Klay had the video taken down today.”

In the video, Klay Thompson went up against non-NBA players and seemed to struggle to score. He couldn’t get by defenders consistently and missed a couple of close-range shots. The sequence where he got beat off the dribble for a dunk will not make Mavericks fans happy.

In the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, the Dallas Mavericks shot 31.6% from deep. Thompson, a career 41.3% shooter from that distance, is expected to help open the floor up for Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. The Mavericks gave him a three-year, $50 million deal to help them try to get over the hump next season.

Klay Thompson is embracing his fresh start

Steve Kerr said in an interview while Team USA had training camp in Las Vegas that Klay Thompson needed a change. The Golden State Warriors coach added that a fresh start will be good for the four-time champ.

Thompson echoed Kerr’s words in a report from ESPN. Here’s what “Killa Klay” had to say about coming to play for the Dallas Mavericks:

"Coming here is just such a fresh start. Feeling just wanted again, like I bring great value, it just gets me excited to go out there and even work out after this press conference and get shots up. Yeah, there were times last year where it was tough, where it wasn't as joyful as it was in the past.”

Thompson has his fresh start and he is embracing it. How long that feeling will last if he struggles and Mavericks fans get on him will be interesting to see.
