Former President Barack Obama talks Tyrese Haliburton about "broke" All-Star game
In the last few seasons, the questions regarding the nature of the NBA All-Star Game have been under severe discussion. From NBA analysts to former NBA players, all have expressed their disappointment over the loss of competitive attitude of the players in the star-studded game.
The latest in the long list of unhappy fans is Barack Obama. The former US President spoke to Tyrese Haliburton on the first episode of Tommy Alter's "Young Man and the Three" podcast.
During the conversation with Tyrese Haliburton and his co-host, Obama expressed his displeasure over how the All-Star game is being played recently. He said that when Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant used to play in All-Star Game, it used to be competitive. He also added that now it has been insulting to the game.
"[1:15] Y'all gotta have a little more pride in that All-Star Game," Obama said. "It's not as if y'all don't play pickup during the Summers. So, you know how to play in a way that... 'All right, I'm not going to hurt anybody, I'm not going to take anybody out.' But that All-Star Game's gotten... It's broke, man...It insults the game."
There have been several reasons that players tend to not go full competition mode in the All-Star game. Most All-Star players are trying to avoid any injury. Moreover, players are also trying to get as much rest as possible during the All-Star break before they resume the season.
