Washington Wizards rookie Alex Sarr has struggled throughout his first four games in an NBA uniform. Throughout the NBA 2k25 Summer League in Las Vegas, Sarr participated in four games, with the Wizards finishing with a 2-2 record. Across the stretch, Sarr averaged just 5.5 points per game. Despite his struggles, much of the focus was on Bronny James and the LA Lakers.
Bronny notably struggled in his two California Classic Summer League games before then playing in the Las Vegas leg of the Summer League for the LA Lakers. While he was able to find his rhythm, scoring 13 points in LA's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Sarr's struggles continued.
At the end of his four-game Las Vegas Summer League stretch, Sarr's 9-47 from the field and 3.8 PER ranked as the worst of any first-round pick in Summer League history.

At the same time, the No. 2 pick shot just 19.1% from the floor, and 11.8% from downtown. The two bright spots in his play came on the glass, where he averaged 7.8 rebounds per game, and on defense where he averaged 2.5 blocks per game.

In response to John Hollinger's revelation that Alex Sarr's PER was the worst of any first-rounder in Summer League history, NBA fans were quick to react.
"I heard more blasphemy about Bronny James being picked at 55, bro lol. Still, I wish the best for the 2nd pick, Alex Sarr," one wrote.
"You have all been on Bronny’s neck when the number 2 pick puts up this historically bad stat line," another added.
Others were quick to call Sarr a bust.
"All time bust incoming" - One wrote
"We got ourselves another wiseman" - Another joked
Others pumped the brakes on the hot takes.
"He’ll be fine. He wasn’t worth a number 2 pick but he’ll be fine." - One wrote
"summer league doesn’t mean a lot, let’s see what he does during the season" - Another added
Alex Sarr's Summer League struggles result in drop in NBA Rookie of the Year odds while Bronny James remains longshot
Alex Sarr's summer league struggles have contributed to a drop in his odds to win the NBA's Rookie of the Year award. Prior to the start of Summer League, Sarr was widely viewed as one of the players most-likely to win Rookie of the Year honors.
On the heels of his struggles during the NBA 2k25 Summer League in Las Vegas, however, Alex Sarr has now fallen to fourth in the NBA's Rookie of the Year race according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Currently, Zach Edey sits with +600 odds to win the NBA's Rookie of the Year award, making him a slight favorite over Reed Sheppard, who has +700 odds to win the Rookie of the Year award on FanDuel.
Edey was shut down by the Grizzlies after just two games at the Salt Lake City leg of the summer league thanks to an ankle injury.
On the flip side, however, Sheppard filled the stat sheet throughout his four Summer League games for the Houston Rockets, averaging 20.0 points, 5.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game on a remarkably efficient 50.0% from the field.
Sitting behind Edey and Sheppard, No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher has +800 odds to win the Rookie of the Year award, with Alex Sarr in a four-way tie in fourth place.
Alongside Alex Sarr, Chicago Bulls rookie Matas Buzelis, LA's Dalton Knecht, and San Antonio's Stephon Castle all have +1000 odds to win the award.
