The NBA community wasn't having it with recent NFL No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams this week. Before the NFL draft on Thursday, Williams spoke with media members on the red carpet and was asked about his NBA player comparison. As he explained, he likes to shoot and play defense, but isn't a very big fan of driving to the hoop because of the risk of rolled ankles.
Because of that, he compared himself with Kevin Durant, indicating that he wants to shout out a hometown hero in the future Hall of Famer. Both players are from Washington DC, but in the case of the Phoenix Suns star, he grew up in Maryland, not far from his hometown of Washington DC.
In the case of Caleb Williams, the young NFL prospect grew up in Washington TV according to CBS News. Despite the connection, it doesn't appear as though the two have linked up yet, but given that Kevin Durant has shown he's an NFL fan, that could change in the future.
After comparing himself to Durant, Williams found himself on the receiving end of some jokes made by the NBA community. From the sounds of things, many seem to think that Williams misunderstood the question by talking about his actual basketball skills rather than a basketball player comparison to his NFL playstyle.

Nevertheless, fan reactions were quick to pour in:
Kevin Durant's goal of owning an NFL team after NBA career is done
As many fans are aware, when LeBron James retires from basketball, he would like to own an NBA team. What some fans may not know, though, is that both James and Durant have expressed a desire to own an NFL team once their basketball careers end.
In 2022 when the NFL team formerly known as the Washington Redskins was up for sale, Kevin Durant as a Washington DC local was interested. Speaking to ESPN at the time, before businessman Josh Harris took ownership of the team, Durant indicated his desire to join an ownership group:
"In a perfect world, I would be a part of it. I would love to do it. I would love to give a little bit of my money to be a part of the Commanders, but we'll see. Hopefully it's somebody nice. I heard Bezos and Jay-Z, but you never know."
While nothing came of the situation at the time, Durant's comments made it clear that he has interest in potentially joining an ownership group. While his basketball career has shown little signs of slowing down, it will be interesting to see if Durant makes the jump into ownership after his playing career.
Of course, with Caleb Williams recently getting drafted by the Chicago Bears, if Durant looks to join the now-Washington Commanders the two DC natives could be opponents.
