Eastern Conference - Which teams are in the Play-in Tournament?
In the Eastern Conference, two teams are fighting for the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds, which would keep them out of the Play-In tournament. Currently, those two spots are held by the New York Knicks (44-33) and the Brooklyn Nets (41-35).
The Knicks have a 2.5-game lead over the Nets, while the Nets have a 1.5-game lead over the No. 7 ranked Miami Heat. The Heat, Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls are in the Play-In tournament. Every remaining game is important for these teams.
The Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors are the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds. Both teams have a 38-38 record, but the Hawks own the tiebreaker. They have a two-game lead over the Chicago Bulls, who currently occupy the No. 10 seed. The No. 11 ranked Washington Wizards are two games behind the Bulls for the final spot in the Play-In Tournament.
In the Western Conference, the race is much closer.
Western Conference - What teams are in the hunt for a Play-in Tournament spot
The LA Clippers (41-36) and the Golden State Warriors (40-37) occupy the No 5 and No. 6 seeds in the Western Conference. With only one game separating the two teams, neither has room for error.
The Minnesota Timberwolves (39-38) are the No.7 seed in the Western Conference. They hold a slight lead over the LA Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans, who both have a 38-38 record. The Lakers are the No. 8 seed as they own the tiebreaker over the Pelicans.
The OKC Thunder are the No. 10 seed. They are just half a game behind the Lakers & Pelicans, and one game behind the Timberwolves.
The Dallas Mavericks (37-40) have won just three of their last 10 games. They are hoping to finish the season strong and secure a spot in the playoffs. The Mavs are just one game behind the Thunder for the final spot in the Play-In Tournament.
