When the Luka Doncic trade to the LA Lakers went down last Saturday, the NBA world was shaken to its core as the Dallas Mavericks not only gave up their 25-year-old superstar for Anthony Davis, but it also teamed up Doncic, who is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world right now, with LeBron James, who is among the sport’s greatest players.
With the shocking trade, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas comically offered his services to join the new-look Lakers squad. In a video he posted on X (formerly Twitter), where he made 17 of his 18 3-point attempts on his yard, Arenas campaigned to join the Lakers to help revive his basketball career.
“I’m like a machine,” Arenas said while drilling 3-pointers. "I ain't gonna charge you that much. … I am automatic."

Arenas also captioned the video with a request to Doncic and James to tell the Lakers organization to sign him, even at least on a 10-day contract.
“Luka and LeBron… tell the Lakers to go ahead and gimme a 10-day 🤣,” Arenas wrote.
Arenas’ latest post proved his shooting touch remains in him even after a decade away from the NBA. Arenas recently turned 43 on Jan. 6, making him just three years older than James, who is currently the oldest active player in the league.
The blockbuster trade included Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris going to the Lakers, while the Mavericks got Davis and Max Christie. Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz got Jalen Hood-Schifino on top of draft compensations.
An avid supporter of the Lakers since he retired, Arenas, who is now primarily a basketball analyst, was a three-time NBA All-Star from 2005 to 2007 with the Washington Wizards. He hit his career-best season in 2005-06, averaging 29.3 points. Arenas last played in the NBA during the 2011-12 season with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Gilbert Arenas thinks Luka Doncic is the Lakers’ No. 1 option now
Gilbert Arenas has been delighted about the LA Lakers trade for Luka Doncic. Arenas was seen jumping and celebrating following the trade, which, according to him, will secure the future of LA even after LeBron James retires.
“We got our No. 1 option now. He won’t be passing to LeBron James. We finally got somebody who will take over and for the future,” Arenas said. “We can lose every game. I don’t care. The future is bright.”
Doncic is expected to debut for the Lakers on Saturday against the Indiana Pacers.
