Former Lakers guard Danny Green recently reflected on the 2020 Lakers roster. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the NBA resumed games in the "NBA Bubble" in Orlando. The Lakers won the 2020 NBA Finals, defeating the Miami Heat, and Green earned his third championship. Despite the success, the Lakers disbanded the team afterward, keeping only LeBron James and Anthony Davis while bringing in new players.
Green was sent to the Philadelphia 76ers in the following season alongside Dwight Howard. Fast forward to the present day, the three-time champion broke silence and expressed his thoughts on the Purple and Gold disbanding the 2020 champions.
As per Legion Hoops' post on X, Green said:
“I think for sure if that team stayed together, we could’ve gotten a second [Championship].”

Fans on social media reacted to Danny Green's statements, with a variety of opinions shared on X. Here's what some said:
"I blame LeBron for breaking up that core and getting Russ"
"100%. They are the best team of the 2020s."
Here are some other mixed reactions on X:
"Y’all wasn’t winning shi that’s y bron traded the entire team cause he knew deep down that was a Mickey Mouse run," one said.
"we should’ve went b2b if not for that rushed season and the groin injury AD got 🤦🏽♂️ ," one tweeted.
"No they wouldn’t. Only reason they even “won” it is because the bubble was rigged for them from the start," another said.
"Lakers vs Bucks. They had the size to contain Giannis better than Suns did that 2021 Finals," one pointed out.
Can Lakers win another title with LeBron James' retirement looming around?
LeBron James has entered the final phase of his NBA career. He's turning 40 years old in a couple of weeks from the time of this writing and is slowly showing signs of aging on the hardwood. With that being said, the big question now is, can the LA Lakers still win another title?
Looking at LA's current situation, it's difficult to tell. The Purple and Gold are in 10th place in the Western Conference with a 14-12 record. There seems to be no improvement compared to their previous season under their former head coach Darvin Ham's command. While new head coach JJ Redick has proven to be a better leader at the beginning of the season, things suddenly went south.
While LeBron James may be averaging nearly a triple-double with 22.8 points, 9.1 assists and 8.0 rebounds per game, his output on a nightly basis isn't as consistent as it used to be. Then there's the issue of the Lakers roster not being able to keep up with the King and Anthony Davis' pace. The moment James and Davis underperform, it usually doesn't end well for LA.
However, it's still a long way to go with 56 games remaining in their season. If the Purple and Gold can figure out what adjustments they need to make, then there could still be hope for them come playoff time.
