Alex Morgan has been championing the rise of women's sports since joining the United States Women's National Soccer Team in 2010. Thus, it only makes sense that Morgan would join fellow athletes Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier in the next trailblazing initiative for women's sports: the Unrivaled Women's Basketball League.

When Morgan was asked about her decision to invest in Unrivaled, she gave the following response:

"The way that Unrivaled is set up, I was on board from day one..." Morgan said. "Fans want to see what a player's personality is and who they vibe with, what drives them, and I think that being able to mesh that with competition, it already has been shown to be a homerun here with Unrivaled. So it would be really exciting to do something with other women's sports as well."

Unrivaled is a professional women's basketball league that plays in a 3x3 format during the WNBA off-season. Unrivaled's season schedule is a way to encourage WNBA players and other Professional Women's Basketball players to compete in the league and grow its following instead of playing overseas for extra income, which many WNBA players have to do to make ends meet.

Morgan makes a statement at the end that it would be exciting to do something similar to Unrivaled with other women's sports as well. It would be a massive win for women's sports if we could get a variety of women's sports leagues like Unrivaled, where the best women's athletes compete night in and night out in their best sports for fans worldwide to enjoy.

Perhaps a soccer version of Unrivaled could inspire Alex Morgan to lace up her cleats one final time.

Alex Morgan retires from playing professional soccer as she's "found her calling in investing in women's sports"

Alex Morgan retired from playing professional soccer in Sept. 2024. However, she says that does not mean she won't be involved with it and other women's sports. Morgan had this to say during her retirement press conference:

"I don't think coaching is in my future, I think that I've found my calling in investing in women's sports, doing as much as I can to give as big of a platform to women's sports as possible"

It doesn't sound like a goodbye but more of a see-you-later from Morgan, who intends to be active in women's sports going forward. A big project of the two-time FIFA Women's World Cup winner is the Unrivaled Women's Basketball League, in which she is an investor.

Unrivaled had its inaugural opening night on Jan. 17 with TNT, the network covering the games, posting the following stats to X (formerly Twitter):

It seems that Alex Morgan's retirement is beginning with excitement as the women's sports community eagerly anticipates her next significant investment. Let's hope it achieves the same success that Unrivaled's opening night experienced.
