Patrick Beverley took a surprise shot at the Toronto Raptors during an episode of "The PatBev Podcast," saying Toronto had no "dog" and no team is scared of facing the Raptors. Beverley's sentiments might be fueled by the upcoming matchup between his Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto on Saturday.
The game will also feature a lot of charged undertones, being the first time new Philly coach Nick Nurse will be back in Toronto. Beverley is known to try to play mind games with opponents. "The PatBev Pod" went so far as to display a graphic with the "dog" quote on its X/Twitter page.
"Who's the dog of that team?" Beverley said. "If I see (Pascal) Siakam or (OG) Anunoby, dow a dark alley, I don't feel threatened."

Patrick Beverley is expected to play the role of a veteran leader and a defensive anchor for Philadelphia this season.
Do the Raptors really have no "dog"?
Patrick Beverley's comments are odd considering OG Anunoby was selected to the NBA’s All-Defensive team last season and led the league in steals (1.9 per game). In addition, Pascal Siakam got a second nod to the All-Star Game.
Maybe the reason Beverley is confident calling out the Raptors is because he beat them as a player of the Chicago Bulls in last season’s play-in tournament.
However, Beverley should be aware that Toronto Raptor's major "dog" this season is probably going to be FIBA MVP and new signing Dennis Schroder. The German captain who joined Toronto to replace under-sized guard Fred VanVleet was key to the German team clinching the FIBA World Cup.
“I mean, every single game we play, I want to win, and then we're going to live with the results," Schroder told the media. "You can't win every single game, but we're going in to take people's heads off. I mean, every single game we want to play. And that's been my way.
"Of course, you cannot win every single game, but if you do it as a team, play together, team chemistry is up. I think that gives you always a great chance to win a basketball game."
Patrick Beverley should not underestimate the Raptors, who finished with a perfect record in the preseason, the first time the team has done so in 28 years. Dennis Schroder is expected to be the main facilitator with Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes shouldering the offense.
