After winning the 2021-22 NBA championship, Draymond Green, Jordan Poole, and the rest of the Golden State Warriors entered the 2022 offseason riding a wave of momentum. Despite that and the expectations heading into the following season, the team's title defense was derailed mainly by a training camp altercation between Green and Poole.
During an episode of "The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis," released on Wednesday, the four-time NBA champion spoke about the altercation and his efforts to make amends. After responding to a clip of Poole saying that he loves "most" of the guys on the Warriors, Green weighed in.
"It’s been three years. Let’s move on. We moved on like we’re supposed to move on, man. I really am sorry,” Green said. “Move on, bro! It is what it is. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have punched him. ... I even apologized to his parents. ... I know I was wrong, but you can’t call a man the B word and push him and not get hit either.”

In response to the situation, Baron Davis said that over the years, we've seen plenty of instances where teammates fight during practice before eventually moving past the problem.
In the case of Green and Poole, however, the fractured relationship is made worse by the fact that Green mentored Poole as he transformed from a young prospect to a standout player on a championship-contending team.
"I get how Jordan Poole feels," - Baron Davis weighs in on fallout from Draymond Green-Jordan Poole altercation
Early on in Jordan Poole's tenure with the Golden State Warriors, the Michigan Wolverine alum had his locker right next to Draymond Green's. Although the two went to rival schools at the NCAA level, Green was open about the fact that he respected Poole for never backing down in a big moment.
Then, with Steph Curry sidelined prior to the 2022 playoffs, Poole began to emerge as an offensive threat, earning the praise of Green. Throughout the team's postseason run, Poole continued to impress, playing an integral role in helping the Curry, Green, and Klay Thompson trio capture a fourth championship.
Leading up to the 2022-23 season, Golden State traded Poole to the Washington Wizards.
Baron Davis weighed in on the situation in the wake of Green's social media apology, saying that he understands Poole's side:
"It happens. It happens in practice when you competitive, you have that competitive spirit but at this point, 'I really am sorry,' is another public apology to just move on like, I get it, I get how Jordan Poole feels, okay you're going to love some of the dudes and you not. ... But it's over."
Only time will tell whether or not the two are able to move past things. Based on the latest comments from Poole, however, it seems as though Poole isn't interested in making amends right now.
