Aside from his successful career in the NBA, Steve Kerr has always been invested in politics. Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, the Golden State Warriors coach touched on which candidate he will be backing.
While appearing on MSNBC, Kerr shared his thoughts on why he is siding with Joe Biden in the upcoming election. Among other issues, gun control laws were among his biggest reasons for choosing his candidate.
"President Biden is adamant that he is going to push for common-sense laws," Kerr said. "I know that President Trump will not do that, so it was really a very simple choice for me."

Gun control has always been something that is important to Steve Kerr, as it is an issue that hits home for him. When he was a freshman in college, he lost his father to gun violence.
Kerr just finished his 10th season as head coach of the Warriors. As Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green start to pass their primes, the team has struggled to stay in the title picture.
Two years after winning a championship, the Warriors failed to make the postseason. They reached the play-in tournament but were eventually eliminated at the hands of the Sacramento Kings.
Steve Kerr and Donald Trump have a rocky history
It is not much of a surprise to see Steve Kerr openly endorse Joe Biden ahead of the 2024 election. Based on his history, he has never been a big fan of former President Trump.
The rocky relationship started when the Golden State Warriors won the NBA title in 2017. As is customary for championship teams, then-President Trump invited the team to the White House. However, the team declined the invitation. This led to Trump publicly taking away the invitation.
A few years later, Trump and Steve Kerr were at odds again when the former President took shots at the Warriors coach. He jabbed at Kerr for not speaking up during the NBA's scandal with China following some tweets from Daryl Morey in 2019.
When discussing the situation, Trump called out Kerr by saying he was too scared to answer questions on the topic. The former President also took aim at San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich for similar reasons.
"Was like a little boy, he was so scared to be even answering the question," Trump said about Kerr.
Kerr was asked about the comment a few days later, and he called the entire situation "strange":
"This is just another day," Kerr said. "I was the shiny object yesterday. There was another one today; there will be a new one tomorrow. And the circus will go on. It's just strange, but it happened."
Steve Kerr and President Trump have never seen eye-to-eye, and that would have made his decision to side with Biden in the 2024 election that much easier.
