LeBron James finds himself in another conversation about the greatest players of all time, but this time, it isn't just about basketball. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs just beat the Buffalo Bills to make their third consecutive Super Bowl appearance. The Chiefs also hope to become the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls.
Some have compared Mahomes and the Chiefs' dominance to the Michael Jordan-era Chicago Bulls of the 1990s, who won six championships in eight years. The Bulls also completed two three-peats, the same feat the Chiefs are hoping to achieve.
OutKick founder Clay Travis is one of those people, and he posted a clip to social media on Monday explaining the comparison between Jordan and Mahomes:

"Nobody looks back in retrospect and says 'boy Patrick Ewing, he's a failure because he didn't win a title.' ... nobody says that about Karl Malone, Reggie Miller, or John Stockton, or Charles Barkley, because you look back and say 'Jordan was just the best.'
"As a result (of playing in Jordan's era) they were never able to advance and win championships. I wouldn't say that about Kobe. I wouldn't say that about Shaq. I wouldn't say that about LeBron James. Jordan dominated the NBA and his (team) sport more than any other athlete, until now, I think you can make the argument for Patrick Mahomes."
While James has been a dominant figure throughout his basketball career, he has never three-peated and has four championships compared to Jordan's six. LeBron however, has other accolades on his side such as being the NBA's all-time leading scorer.
3x Super Bowl champion says Patrick Mahomes is more Magic Johnson than Michael Jordan or LeBron James
While Clay Travis thinks Patrick Mahomes can lay claim to being the Michael Jordan of the NFL, Shannon Sharpe says the Chiefs QB is more like Magic Johnson than either LeBron James or MJ.
During First Take on Monday, the three-time Super Bowl champion pointed to Magic's success early in his career as the reason for his comp.
"If you look at the first eight years of his career," Sharpe said. "He's Magic Johnson. Because Magic won in '80, he won in '82, he won in '85."
Mahomes, who was drafted in 2017, is gunning for his fourth career Super Bowl title. James, meanwhile, didn't win his first title until his seventh NBA season.
But while James didn't quite enjoy that same level of early title success as Magic or Mahomes, his longevity and consistency remain remarkable.
LeBron James has been voted as an NBA All-Star for the 21st time in his career, the most in NBA history. He has been in the All-Star game every year except for his rookie year and he has been a starter for an incredible 21 straight years.
