Through the first three weeks of the season, Joel Embiid has only appeared in one game. As the former MVP continues to face scrutiny, one former player came to his defense.

It's no secret that injuries have plagued Embiid's NBA career. Knowing this, the Philadelphia 76ers are trying to take more action than ever before. Heading into the season, they said that getting Embiid to the postseason healthy is their top priority.

On his podcast, Gilbert Arenas shared his thoughts on Joel Embiid's minimal workload this season. The former Warriors guard feels that the blame should be put on the team and not the player.

"I tried to warn you motherf***ers," Arenas said. "All players want to f****** play. It's just part of our engine. The only way these guys are sitting is because someone is telling them to."

Embiid was sidelined to open the season due to rehabbing the knee injury suffered against the Golden State Warriors last year. That resulted in the league investigating the Sixers and eventually fining them $100,000.

After a long wait, Embiid finally made his season debut for the Sixers. The All-Star big man was in the lineup Tuesday for the team's NBA Cup action against the New York Knicks.

Joel Embiid wanted to play in back-to-back vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Following his debut against the Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers were back in action the next night to take on the undefeated Cleveland Cavaliers. The team ended up ruling Joel Embiid out, but it seemed like he wanted to be on the floor.

In his first taste of action this season, it was clear that Embiid needs to shake the rust off before returning to form. He logged 26 minutes against the Knicks and finished with 13 points and five assists on 2-for-11 shooting.

After the game, Joel Embiid was asked about the idea of playing in the back-to-back against the Cavs. He brought up the comments he made earlier this year but doesn't feel that they were entirely accurate.

"I want to. That's up to those guys," Embiid told reporters Tuesday. "I know I said I would never play back-to-backs but I'm a troll so I'm sure at some point I will play."
"It's no my decision. If I can, I'll be out there."

Being without Embiid, Paul George and now Tyrese Maxey has hurt the Sixers in a big way. Following their stellar offseason, they haven't come out of the gates the way a contending team would want. Following their loss to the Cavaliers Wednesday, the Sixers sit in 14th place in the East with a 2-9 record.

In regards to when Embiid will be in action again, reports indicate that he will be in the lineup Friday for the Sixers' matchup against the Orlando Magic.
