Houston Rockets star Dillon Brooks has never forgotten where he came from. The Canadian forward has taken an active role in supporting his high school alma mater, Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School in Toronto.

Known for its strong basketball program, the school faced financial struggles that threatened to derail its success. Brooks stepped in to ensure the program not only survived but thrived.

During a late December visit to Toronto for the game against the Raptors, the school honored Brooks with Dillon Brooks Day. The event included the Dillon Brooks Cup, a tournament featuring his former high school team.

A ceremony followed, where Brooks’ Rockets jersey was framed and displayed alongside photos from his high school playing days. His family was present, adding a personal touch to an already emotional celebration.

Houston Rockets sideline reporter Vanessa Richardson reported during the game against Toronto that Brooks said (via On3):

"My high school coach, Paul Melnik, did everything for me. I wanted that program to continue."

Brooks became the primary sponsor of the school’s Senior Boys Prep Program. His financial backing has been crucial in covering huge expenses, including travel costs for tournaments in the United States. These trips provide young athletes with vital exposure to college scouts and higher levels of competition. Without this support, many of these opportunities would be out of reach.

Brooks has often credited his high school coach, Paul Melnik, with shaping his career. During his time at Father Henry Carr from 2010 to 2013, Brooks led the team to three undefeated seasons and multiple championships.

To top it off, Brooks secured a Nike sponsorship for the team, supplying players with professional-grade uniforms and gear. This not only boosts the team’s image but also builds their confidence, allowing them to focus on their performance on the court.

Dillon Brooks is creating new opportunities and supporting future generations

Dillon Brooks’ generosity goes beyond funding a basketball program. It’s about creating opportunities for young athletes to grow, both on and off the court. His actions inspire current players to dream big and work hard, knowing that someone who started where they are now believes in their potential.

His contributions provide players with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities that can shape their futures both on and off the court. Vanessa Richardson reported:

"Dillon Brooks stepped in and made a significant donation hooked them up with Nike gear, track suits, shoes."

For Brooks, this is deeply personal. He understands how much his high school shaped him, not just as a player but as a person. Giving back is his way of showing gratitude to the place that played such an important role in his life.

"His Alma meter Father Henry Carr they honoured Dillon and framed his jersey, they had pictures from Dillon's basketball journey and held a series of really fun basketball games," Vanessa Richardson reported.
