"I wish we never spoke about it" - Kyle Filipowski's mom Becky laments spotlighting Jazz rookie's relationship with Caitlin Hutchison

One of the biggest stories of the 2024 NBA draft was Kyle Filipowski falling to the second round amid rumors about his off-court life. His mother Becky has now spoken about the situation. She admits it's been a tough period for her family and wishes the relationship was never brought to light.

Before entering the draft, Filipowski was fresh off an impressive sophomore season at Duke. He averaged 16.4 points and 8.3 rebounds while racking up accolades like the All-ACC and ACC tournament MVP.

Kyle Filipowski was invited to the green room for the 2024 NBA draft but didn't hear his name called until Round 2 when the Utah Jazz selected him. Reports quickly emerged that his stock dropped due to his relationship with his girlfriend Caitlin Hutchison, who is seven years older than him and has been accused of grooming him since he was in high school.

During an interview with The Salt Lake Tribune published on Thursday, Filipowski's mom opened up on the narrative around her son.

"We didn't ask for this," she told the Tribune. "ESPN came out with that report and opened this up. We responded to that. This has been an issue, painful for us for years before draft night.

"I'm seeing all these reports and they are speculating without doing any research. … Sometimes I wish we never spoke about it."

Neither Kyle Filipowski nor Caitlin Hutchison has publicly spoken about their relationship, but their family members have broken their silence.

Back in July, Caitlin's mother Amanda Hutchison said that the two have opted to lay low following the flurry of grooming accusations against Caitlin.

“What we’ve always said to the kids is, for everything that’s good, if you have faith at all there will be adversaries, there’s always a negative for every positive. So it’s how we weather those storms,” Amanda Hutchison said.

Kyle's brother Daniel was the first family member to go public. He took to X (formerly Twitter) just days after the NBA draft and referred to his brother as a victim and a pawn in Caitlin's alleged "schemes."

With his second post, Daniel sent out a heartwarming message for his brother. He wanted to let him know that the family still loves and supports him and that he's received support from other families who have dealt with a similar situation.

In his third and final post, Daniel shared a series of photos to help spread awareness of the issue as a whole.
