There was a point when Isaiah Thomas was the league leader in scoring in the fourth quarter. He had beaten the odds, as not many 5-foot-9 players make it to the NBA, much less to the All-Star Game.
Unfortunately, a back injury derailed his career, and he was never the same after the Boston Celtics traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Even so, the point guard refuses to give up on his NBA dream, and even at 35 years old, he agreed to join the Utah Jazz's G-League affiliate in hopes of returning to the big stage.
With that in mind, fans shared their thoughts on his desire to return, and most of them had nothing but respect for his determination:

"If Bronny can get a chance in the NBA, why can’t 2-time all star, IT?" one fan wondered.
"Man this guy has no quit. Respect it," another fan added.
"Eric Gordon still has a roster spot all power to Isaiah Thomas," a Sixers fan said.
"Hate to say it but if Demarcus Cousins can’t get back to the NBA despite still being able to play, it’s hard to see Isaiah Thomas get a gig again since the NBA rarely looking at small PGs anymore. He already had a lot of failed opportunities so best bet would be to go overseas," another fan shared.
"Thomas is still a walking 35, 40. idk what ball y’all watch lol if he gets plays for Utah he can get off . He can also be a role player and score when needed, & be a distributor," one fan chimed in.
Isaiah Thomas knows he's fighting the odds
Isaiah Thomas has made several comeback attempts in the past, and he's even been back in the league with short-term deals. He's not much of a presence on defense, and while his scoring prowess is still there, Thomas doesn't get separation as easily as he did in the past.
Nonetheless, the word 'quit' just isn't in his vocabulary:
“I just enjoy the process, but I know what I’m fighting against,” Thomas said in August (via Cronkite News). “I understand it, but I’ve had that same fight my whole life. This is just normal to me. It’s just another stage I have to get by."
It's easy to root for someone with such big dreams and the determination and discipline to pursue them. With multiple teams in need of another bucket-getter, perhaps he'll end up getting another chance to walk away on his own terms.
