The Bucks beat the OKC Thunder 97-81 in the championship game led by Giannis Antetokounmpo's triple-double performance of 26 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists, two steals and three blocks.
Milwaukee entered the game as a 4.5-point underdog, and the convincing victory reinstated hopes of the Bucks' run this season.
“It’s great; it’s great for our team,” Antetokounmpo said. “We’re getting better. ... We know we’re leaving Vegas as a better team. I’m so proud of this group. Man, I’m so proud of this group.”
While the win is cause for celebration, Giannis Antetokounmpo made his stance clear when he said that "Job's not done" as the Bucks look to keep up the winning momentum for the season's title.
Giannis Antetokounmpo cites legacy as motivation to clinch NBA Cup victory
As winners of the Emirates NBA Cup, each Bucks player received a cash prize of around $500,000 along with the new hardware, while the runners-up received around $200,000 each.
When asked about the cash prize ahead of the championship game, Giannis Antetokounmpo said that the money wasn't on his mind.
"For me, I don't think, I try not to think about the money," Antetokounmpo said. "I think about the money when we're talking about the young guys. Personally, I try not to think about the money, I think about the game. I don't play basketball, anymore, for the money."
While Antetokounmpo addressed the potential impact of the $500,000 for some of the young players, the eight-time NBA All-Star said that it's more important for him to leave a legacy behind.
"For me, it's (about) creating more art, creating more moments that I can remember, and creating more legacy for myself and something my kids can look back on and say, 'My dad was a bad mf*er when he used to play.'"
The Milwaukee Bucks were undefeated in the 2024 NBA Cup, going 6-0. Giannis Antetokounmpo averaged 30.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.8 blocks across the six games, shooting 66.7% from the field.
